4. Highway Code: Reminder of Your Obligations and Responsibility
You are responsible for your vehicle's loading, its roadworthiness, and the securing of any loaded products. However, if our staff consider that your safety—or that of other road users—is at risk, they have the authority to refuse loading.
Key points from the Highway Code:- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): the total permissible weight of the vehicle, including its load. The driver must refuse any excess load.
- This GVWR also depends on load distribution across all wheels and may be reduced in the case of overhang due to rearward product overextension.
- Obstruction: The load must not obstruct the driver's movement or visibility.
-
Lengthwise: The load may only overhang at the rear:
- Up to 1 meter without a reflective device,
- Up to 3 meters with a reflective device (with an additional light if needed).
- Width: The load must not exceed 2.55 meters.
- Roof rack: Any product loaded on a roof rack must be properly secured. Always check the load capacity of both the roof bars and the vehicle.
